System transport, general cargo transport or groupage transport – what do they all mean?
In the freight forwarding industry, “groupage transport” is a common term that refers to collecting goods that need to be transported to the same destination until enough freight has been consolidated to load and dispatch a truck.
Nowadays, however, modern freight forwarding companies prefer to use the term “system transport”. Instead of focusing on collecting goods for one single destination, system transport involves flexibly bringing cargo to several different destinations along a route. The term “system transport” or “general cargo transport” refers to transporting individual general cargo instead of complete truckloads.
