System transport, general cargo transport or consolidated transport – what does each term mean?
In the freight forwarding industry, the term “consolidated transport” is commonly used. It refers to the practice of collecting goods destined for the same location until enough freight is available to fully load a truck and dispatch it.
Modern logistics providers, however, increasingly use the term “system transport”. In this model, the focus is no longer on consolidating shipments for a single destination. Instead, multiple destinations are served flexibly along defined routes.
The terms “system transport” and “general cargo transport” both describe the shipment of individual consignments, rather than full truckloads.
